Fish Oil for Dogs

Research says that if you give a lot of fish oil to your dog, it you will get cancer and die every time.
I talk with a lot of people about fish oil.
Many people take fish oil because they have been ‘sold’ on the idea that fish oil is something they need to be taking.
Note: If you take fish oil, please read this article.
It explains the science of fish oil and how it reacts inside your body.
After I share a bit of information and background research, I often get this question from dog owners…
“What about fish oil for dogs?”
The answer is simple…
And it goes against everything every ‘guru’ out there will tell you.
But when it comes to dogs, there is hard evidence that you should not use fish oil for dogs.
According to Dr. Ray Peat, PhD, researchers in the 1940’s discovered that when dogs were fed a large amount of cod liver oil, their death rate from cancer increased by 20 times, from the usual 5% to 100%.
Now just because the researchers used cod liver oil and not fish oil, don’t think that means fish oil is good for dogs.
The fats in these oils are chemically similar. The main difference being that cod liver oil contains more vitamin A and vitamin D.
Why Haven’t You Heard This Before?
The ‘gurus’ promote fish oil like it’s the fountain of youth.
They received their education from none other than the fish oil industry, which generates over $1.1 billion per every year. Everyone from the policymakers down to your local health food store are getting a piece of it.
But this hype should make you stop for a second and think…
Is fish oil even natural?
Can you even imagine a caveman squeezing the oil out of a fish because it was better than eating the whole fish?
I don’t think so.
In fact, fish oil goes rancid so quickly that by the time you buy it in the store, it already contains acrolein, MDA and other lipid peroxidation byproducts. These compounds are extremely toxic to your body. They damage your DNA, RNA, cell membrane and all other cellular components.
You can read more about lipid peroxides in this article and in this one.
I hope you learned a thing or two here.
- Don’t take fish oil and don’t give it to your family members
- Your dog is a family member, so don’t use fish oil for dogs!
